Media and Iraq

Has the negative way in which the media has reported the Iraq war turned Americans against the war?

(80% of the 2301.8012 class thought yes).
(88% of the 2302.8006 class thought yes).

Almost certainly the way the media has portrayed the war has played it's part in the American people's negative views towards it. The media is a powerful outlet of information, and with many issues, both domestic and especially foreign, it's the only way we can find out what's going on. So yeah, when the media puts a spin on something, that spin is going to be reflected in the views of the watchers/readers, I don't think anyone can doubt that.

The real question is, has the way the media portrays the war been the only influencing factor in the negative way the majority of the american society sees the war? In my opinion, the answer is yes. People are stupid, most are stupid enough to believe what they hear without questions, as long as they believe it comes from a 'reputable' source, be it the TV, radio, a relative or friend, or even a late night show.

Of course, I recognize not all Americans are stupid, and a good part of us don't take what we see in the news for face value, and we either don't watch it at all knowing it not to be a reliable source of the facts, or we take it upon ourselves to find the facts where we believe them to be most accurate.

That being said, I full heartedly agree that the negative reporting on the war is going to be reflected in the hearts and minds of the American people, it would be the same even if it was positive reporting.

Information is the basis upon which we establish our opinion, and if the only way we get our information is through a biased news outlet, then our opinions are going to be based on biased information, which leads to the (very heavily) influenced opinion of the average person.

on the subject of the media swaying the image of the iraq war, i believe it is very evident. i have a video here from the Bill Maher show. if you cant see it then here is the link or url: http://youtube.com/watch?v=SLw5BjvUtvw

in this video bill is interviewing a cnn international correspondant in Baghdad. as you may know bill is very liberal and generaly tends to sway his questions to promote his views. juslike the liberal media as some, like myself, tend to believe. but as we see here no matter how much he sways his questions you cant hide the facts. Michael Ware works for a generally accepted liberal media station. whether he is actually liberal i dont know for sure but if i had to guess i would say so. watch as bill throws his questions at michael with what the liberal media has been saying behind them. and see how someone actually on the scene tells you how it is basically throwshis skewed questions right back at him. michael even gains the audiences'support. the whole point of this is to show how liberals generally tend to sway us into thinking that the war is a bad thing but when it is all said and done by a guy actually there, that assumption is wrong.

well it wouldnt accept the video but i put the url there so go check it out :)

Media have big power and many people believe whatever the media will say. In the war in Iraq we have no other view than to believe the media. We don't really know how it really looks like, and how really is, and what these troops are doing there. We trust what we read in the newspaper, or we see in TV.
Even though the media shows all bad things about war in Iraq, I don't think that this is the only one reason why people are not "happy" with that war. I believe that any war is bad, and if one country does not attack another, there should be no reason to go and attack it. I am not political, and not a citizen of the United States, but my country supported war in Iraq, even though my country thinks war in Iraq is good, I don't agree with this opinion.
I found great series online about war in Iraq. I think whoever cares about war in Iraq should watch it.
