Someone mentioned today in class that the U.S. president should not meet with the president of Iran if he doesn't reflect the will of the people since he was self appointed to power. I agree with this, because then we would be acknowledging the supression of a people as fine and valid.

I believe that it will positive for the U.S.A. to negotiate with the President of Iran before
using the force or attacking the country. "Some seem to believe we should negotiate with the terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them..." said President George Bush to Israeli lawmakers while his visit to the middle eastern country on its 60th anniversary. His comments where heard by “...democrats [who] angrily called the comment a veiled shot at Obama, who has advocated dialogue with Iran and Syria.”
President Bush and Senator Obama have different opinions about how the issue should be solved; but as somebody said in the class that “...exhausting all the possibilities first...” should be used before using force, and I agree on that.
I believe the president should meet with the president of Iran. Even if it ends up of being a waste of time at least it sends a message to the rest of the world the US doesn't just jump into a war.
As a President, he represents the morals and values of this country, whether he feels that meeting with other countries President's is necessary or not, he always represents the people. It not only shows his willingness to work toward negotiation, but it shows that he wants to help pursue diplomacy in this country and reach for diplomacy in other countries. The President of Iran does not have the best track record, but in my own opinion every President is willing to sit down and talk and listen, whether he agrees with the enemies values or not. It shows that we care, if Bush will take the time to meet with him. We also have to put into context that the President of Iran was very willing to meet with the students of Columbian University without hesitation and it is up to us to do the same.
Yes i do think that the government should try diplomacy first, because that way the general public can never really say that we didn't try. Trying diplomacy will give us good PR and relieve us of any future blame. It may not work with iran but at least we will give them a chance to say no before we result to violence
I believe that the president of the US should be willing to meet with the president of Iran. First of all, it will resolve a lot of issues, it will also end the war in order to save lives. Instead of involving in a war, there can be more better solutions, that way both presidents can make an agreement.
I think that we should try to make as many diplomatic decisions as possible, and if it can lead to saving lives in Iraq, then we should try it. I agree that it may end up being a waste of time, but isn't it worth it just to know that we tried? I agree with Jessica that our President represents how the world views our country and if they see him being diplomatic and negotiable, then other countries will view the U.S. in a positive light.
