I think McCain just made a slip. It's a complex situation in the Middle East right now, and for anyone it might be difficult to remember everything precisely.
I think it's ok because it just an offhand remark, its not like he ordered an attack on the wrong group. I believe he has the knowledge of of whats' going on with the different groups, but that he simply confused the terms.
I do not think it is right to count that against since all of us as human beings tend to make mistakes. He is very busy and does interviews almost everyday. I am just tired of the media trying to make candidates look bad and make them look like the bad guy. I say McCain's mistake is still a good one and it will be great to see a person make a mistake every now and them to prove they are human!
I think all of the candidates are subject to making mistakes- they're constantly traveling, always speaking to the public, and they have to balance their personal lives on top of everything else. Obama mistakingly said the death toll for a tornado in Kansas was 10,000 when it was really 12, and he also said that he had visited 57 states...(http://youtube.com/watch?v=7_4ixxD5Om4). Likewise, Hillary has nearly broken down in tears while she was speaking at an event(http://video.google.com/videosearch?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=HPIB,HPIB:2005-19,HPIB:en&q=hillary%20clinton%20crying&um=1&sa=N&tab=wv). These instances just prove that they're all human and prone to stress and error. I don't think any of these slip-ups really matter in the grand scheme of things and I feel that making a big deal out of it is a bit too judgemental (regardless the candidate...).

I agree with what has been said here. I think that we must allow the canidates to be human and thus make mistakes. It is not as if he did something morally or ethically wrong. He simply mis-spoke( I think) and he did correct himself. Sometimes I say things wrong and I don't even know it until someone points it out. I know what I meant to say but I didn't hear that I said something different. I think this is a similar situation.

I think it was just a slip of tongue. I'm sure he meant to say the shi'ite people that were trained in Iran and went to Iraq, where they were stiring trouble in that country. He did correct himself at the end where he said its not the al qaeda its the religious extremist.
I think it would be ok to vote for McCain. He made a mistake and he atleast corrected himself while he was still on the air. I don't think it would be right to hold this against him.

I think that not voting for McCain because he made this mistake would be wrong decision. These candidates have so many things going on, and though becoming president will not lead an easy lifestyle, I feel like this mistake was just a slip.
I think it would be wrong to say that McCain is ignorant of the situation in the Middle East and I think that anybody with cameras and reporters in their faces 24/7 would be even more prone to making mistakes.
