Yes. I believe that we should withdraw troops as soon as possible. Ten men defending their homes is stronger than an army of thousands. Or however the old saying goes. We are hindering them from accomplishing and defending themselves and we should allow them to choose. We as the United States have been in the same or almost similar situation with us fighting for what we believed in when we fought for our freedom from oppression with England. Who are we to say that they are unable properly defend themselves?
I think that the U.S. should slowly get out of Iraq because of the loss of American lives. I know you can't compare the numbers to other wars but still people are being killed. The U.S. shouldn't just leave Iraq all of a sudden because the Iraqi people don't have a stable government yet and the U.S. might have to go and intervene later on again.
I believe that the American military should leave Iraq gradually because if they are removed too quickly it could be unsafe for the soldiers and the innocent people in Iraq. Removing the troops in Iraq is a delicate decision because the more time the U.S.A. soldiers stays there, more soldiers will sacrifice their lives- unfortunately. However, violence stills present in the Middle East, and the innocent people is in danger. “...American and Iraqi forces moved into the two southernmost sectors of Sadr City...to try to stop the rocket firing and assert control; the American military later built a wall...in an effort to turn these southern areas of Sadr City into a safe zone.” The previous sentences describe the violence that exists in Sadr City; however, the military of the U.S.A. and Iraq work collectively in order to preserve the peace as mush as possible.

I don't believe that the best idea is to pull all U.S. troops out at once for the sake of protection of American people, as well as the innocent Iraqi people. We need to keep some US presence in Iraq to help maintain the years and years of work put into trying to establish democracy and keep it at minimum, an okay place to live. We still have not met a certain goal of negotiation and have not yet created the democracy that we feel is necessary to occurr in Iraq to create a good relationship. Many people seem to speak of how this war costs so much money, but in my opinion you can't put a price on a life, no matter how much we are spending on keeping troops in Iraq. Lastly, Saddam Hussein has loyal followers and although he is no longer in power, those followers may attack at any time and we need to be on guard.
First I ask you this rhetorical question? What happened to the Iraqi government when we left it alone?
War is a topic that is sore among all nations. The general public don't like it and want it to end soon. I couldn't agree more, but we entered this war to liberate a country whose people are harassed by a tyrannical regime, and needed to be free.
So no, we shouldn't leave Iraq until it’s capable to stand on its own two feet.

The Iraqi government is close but close only counts in horseshoes and grenades.

After our discussion today, I definitely don't think it would be a good idea to leave Iraq anytime soon. Eventhough it is an expensive "war", leaving would put the US in a perilious situation by allowing Iraq to succumb to the insurgents. It would become a breeding ground for terrorists to be trained to harm the US.
As you mentioned, we have troops stationed all over the world. Obviously we feel it is important and worth the expense to stabilize regions and continue to provide security.
And if it is true that we are getting close (and I've heard that from several sources) to defeating or rather greatly minimizing the treat of al Qaida, let's stay and finish the job. Otherwise the money and lives we've spent will be wasted.
Sometimes it seems as though the Democratic candidates just say what the American people want to hear without any factual support. It is persuaive and could possibly get them elected.
Basically I am willing to give Bush's plan a chance.
I do not think that we should get out of Iraq as soon as possible. I think that the Iraqi government is not stable enough yet to stand on it's own with the destructive influences of the terrorists. Also I think that if we pull out as soon as possible, what kind of a message is that sending to other countries? Will it seem to other countries that as soon as our men start dying and it becomes expensive, we will pull out if we cannot see immediate results? Does that show that we will not stand up for our convictions(in this case, helping the Iraqis create a stable governement)if it is costly to us?
I realize this is easy for me to say because I am not fighting in the war. I agree that we should have a clear point at which we can say that we have accomplished our goal and can now come home. I just think that we should be willing to stay to help the Iraqi government stablize, despite the dangers and costs, if we truly feel that it is the right thing to do.

Like several of the people in class, I think a gradual withdrawl is the best plan for right now. I feel like we've established a foundation for democracy there, but it's still a little wobbly. Moreover, that part of the world is still a heavy breeding ground for the terrorists who have sworn the US as their enemy. By maintaining a presence there our focus isn't just on creating a democracy in Iraq, it's also looking out for our well-being.

I think the US should get out of Iraq as soon as possible because that way we won't lose anymore lives. They've also spent enough time there and it's about time they return back home. They haven't really accomplish a lot staying there and it brings down the economy leading a recession. So it was be much better if they return home, and i'm sure they would love to come home too, especially their family members.

I think that we should bring back the troops from Iraq when we know that the Iraqi government will be able to take care of itself from the terrorist groups, or else all our hard work to get that country free and have democracy will be ruined and the country will be back to what they were to begin with.
The US should leave Iraq when all objectives laid out by Congress have been completed. If we were to leave ASAP how many innocent Iraqis would die? What would happen to that country? Iran, in all likelihood, would set up a new regime. One that agreed with it's ideals. And in having one more country on Iran's side could only prove hazardous to the US. War does not end in one day. It does not end when we wish it to. It ends when the victor sees no more enemies. And right now Iran is continuing to provide enemies.

I do not believe that, "getting out as soon as possible," is the correct approach to the war in Iraq, or the correct approach for the war on terror for that matter either. Granted, war is horrible. That is an obvious conclusion; however why waste those lives which have already been shed for this cause? Why would we leave without finishing the objective? It seems that would be a waste of current and past efforts in the Middle East. Bush even stated that this would be a long ordeal, and that our presence in Iraq would be lengthy... His public approval rating was very high when he decided to go to Iraq...The fact that Americans want out is a result of human impatience and ignorance to the situation, as well as an ignorance and lack of understanding for international terrorism. --Stevie S
I AM FOR PULLING OUT TROOPS FROM IRAQ FOR MANY REASONS:
FIRST IRAQ REGIME UNDER SADDAM WAS A THREAT FOR US.WE ACCOMPLISHED THIS MISSION TO REMOVE HIM FROM THE POWER.
SECOND, AS LONG AS WE STAY, THIS WAR WILL COST LIVES AND OUR ECONOMY. WE HAVE TO GET FROM THERE AND GIVE OUR FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO IRAQI TO ACCOMPLISH WHAT WE STARTED, BUT ANY TIME THREAT WILL APPEAR AGAIN WE WILL RETURN BACK.

I think the US should stay a little while longer in Iraq just so an uprising will not take place. It is only prodecdural that they watch Iraq and do not leave abruptly. I dont like how the dying numbers are broadcasted everyday but I do agree with the reason we are in Iraq in the first place. If we do not try to establish democracy who will? And why top in Iraq? Why not continue with North Korea? France? Iran? Other terrorist regimes?

Yes, I think it would be the correct thing to do. Having war in Iraq or any place in the world doesn't really accomplish anything and the result are always negative. I agree that the U.S. has done a good thing by helping the Iraqi people bring freedom from their dictator, Hussein. But for what sacrifice? There has been deaths of soldiers and many deaths of innocent people in Iraq and having a war would not solve anything, it would only get worse.
I believe that we should slowly pull the troops out of Iraq because alot of people have already died. And i wouold not want anymore people to die so mabye if we were to do it slowly it would mabye ease up on anymore deaths that could acure before we leave.
